Angeles Muñoz and team from Trauma Centre 'Virgen del Rocio', Seville The first Spanish CRASH Trial meeting was held in Seville on 18 May 2001, hosted by Angeles Muñoz, the National Co-ordinator. The meeting which was held at the Seville Expo Centre was very well attended by doctors and nurses from many parts of Spain including: Almeria, Badajoz, Barcelona, Burgos, Cordoba, Cadiz, Granada, Malaga and Salamanca. Already Dr Alvarez and Juan Nava from Hospital Mútua de Terrassa, Barcelona have ethical approval and are ready to start enrolling patients and many more centres are now seeking ethical approval. Many thanks to CruzCampo brewery (the oldest in Spain!) who donated lunch to all the delegates. The team at Trauma Centre 'Virgen Del Rocio' were among the first international hospitals to join the CRASH Trial and have already randomised 44 patients. |
Silke Ludwig and team in University Hospital of Zurich The first Swiss CRASH Trial meeting was hosted by Silke Ludwig and Reto Stocker, in Zurich on 28 June 2001. The meeting was held at the University Hospital of Zurich and was attended by doctors and nurses from Berne, Schaffhausen and Zurich. Following the meeting Urs Denzler from Kantonsspital Schaffhausen very quickly obtained ethical approval and is now preparing to participate in the trial. Silke and Reto also joined
the CRASH Trial early on in the start-up phase and have now enrolled 60
patients into the trial and get the gold star
for obtaining a follow-up rate of 100%!
|
Both meetings were a great
success and we are delighted by the level of enthusiasm and commitment
for the CRASH Trial in both these countries and worldwide. The CRASH
Trial is still well on target - but for it to succeed many more centres
must join the already strong collaborative group and work together to answer
the ‘corticosteroid in head injury’ question once and for all. There
is no time like the present - if you have not done so already, submit an
application to your ethics committee and...

Reminder to
UK hospitals:
NHS Number It would help us enormously with the mammoth task of following up enrolled patients at six months if you were to enter the NHS number on the Early Outcome Form. One of the follow-up strategies is to contact the Office for National Statistics for the patient's vital status and this job is made much easier and less costly for us if the NHS number is known. |
