The Research Institute for Special Surgery and Traumatology, Brno, Czech Republic. | European Collaboration: Going from strength
to
|
||
The annual Novak Traumatological Congress is one of the largest scientific trauma care meetings in Europe and this year was attended by delegates from Austria, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, USA and UK. David Yates, lead clinician on the CRASH trial, presented the trial to the 350 delegates, a presentation that stimulated much discussion and resulted in several new collaborating centres. Thanks to Professor Petr Zelníček, Chairman of the Czech Traumatological Society, we were also able to run a CRASH trial symposium alongside the main congress. The symposium was hosted by Dr Petr Svoboda the Czech National Co-ordinator for the CRASH trial and was a great success. Dr Filip Kramar from the Department of Neurosurgery at Charles University has already obtained ethics committee approval to take part and is expected to start recruiting patients soon. In the coming months we can look forward to new collaborating centres in Banska Bystrica, Usti nad Labem, Olomouc, Bratislava, and Prague. The symposium was also an opportunity to meet with collaborators who are already actively recruiting patients into the CRASH trial including Drs Petr Svoboda, Ilona Kantorova and Ladislav Kozumplik. Unfortunately, Dr Jiri Ochmann our top recruiter was on a well-deserved holiday in Malta! |

The
first regional CRASH collaborators meeting for the South of England will
be held on the 23rd November at the CRASH Co-ordinating Centre in London
from 4.00pm to 6.00pm. The meeting will be an opportunity to feedback information
on the progress of the trial, share experiences, and find out from trial
collaborators how the trial procedures might be improved. We look forward
to meeting collaborating A&E doctors, nurses, intensivists and neurosurgeons
from centres in the south of England and the Midlands.
